Catching up

So, I've not posted in a fair while (about a year, I think! 😳). It's been rather a busy year, with my wedding last summer, a busy work period, and family commitments but I've managed I find a little time to make some cakes. Pictures below include a cross stitch from Kirsty Alsopp's book made for my sister-in-law; a birthday cake for my mother-in-law, a competition cake; where I won first place for both taste and design; a macaroon tower made for our wedding; a first birthday cake with hand-made Mickey Mouse design; a clay pigeon shooting themed birthday cake; a christening cake for my second cousin; and finally my sister-in-law's wedding cake (plus detail of the top). Phew. That's a long list!

Unfortunately, I don't know that I'll have much time again for a while but I'm on a royal icing course at Eastleigh College so hope to have something to show off from that in a couple of months, with maybe a few updates along the way.

I'm also contemplating a bit of a marathon of cake making for charity whereby I hope to auction off a cake a month for a year. Going to run the idea by my charity coordinator at work, plus work out whether I can afford both the time and money involved but will probably bring later in the summer if all goes ahead.

Mother's Day

Here are the cards I made for my mum and mother-in-law.

I have my Promarkers now so am very excited!!

I clearly need to practice my photo-taking...

Looking at these pictures, I realise that the sentiments don't look quite right. Next time I will stamp on to contrasting card and cut out. They look better up close, promise!!

Can I enter the green card into the MSE Spring Challenge?

Thanks

King of the Road

It's a colleague's birthday on Wednesday so I thought I would give my first birthday card for a male a shot.

He passed his driving test only about a year ago and we often tease him about his motoring skills so I thought that this would be a fitting card:

The fonts are from a collection of letting stamps I have, stamped in bronze and embossed with clear powder.
The sticker was free with a cardmaking magazine this month.
The red card was from my stash and the checked paper was also free in a magazine

Wedding Invitations: Making Progress

Today has been spent cutting ribbons and applying buckles, and applying double sided tape to mounting paper. My fingers ache!

Here are the beginnings of our invitations with silver embossed lettering, ivory ribbon and diamanté buckle.

A card for Beth

It's my friend Beth's birthday in a few days so I thought I'd try out my skills and make her a card.

As before, the image is LOTV from a free stack, painted with acrylics. The papers are all from my stash.

I hope she likes it!

My Very First Card

I've been getting impatient and wanting to buy so many stamps, tools and papers! I thought I'd better prove (to myself) that I can create a card with what I already have.

The LOTV image was free with a magazine (Papercraft Inspirations?). I pained it with some acrylic paints I had, mixing the colours myself. The papers are all from my stash and the flower is freehand decoupage.

I wanted to do more with it but am worried about over doing it! I haven't added a sentiment but will probably use the card for mother's day.

My first blog hop!

I've just taken part in my first "blog hop" Took me a while to figure out what it was!

It is great to see what a vast community of card makers and artists are out there. I feel I have a lot to learn!

The blog hop can be found here at Whimsy Stamps Inspirations.
